Vijayawada: Telugu Desam Party leader and former Transport Minister K Atchannaidu on Saturday came down heavily on the Andhra Pradesh government for increasing the RTC bus fares in the State.

In a press release here, Atchannaidu said the YSRCP had assured the people that the government would not hike the bus fare.It betrayed the people by increasing the fares within six months of coming into power.

He said the hike in bus fares indicated the failure of the government. It is ridiculous that the government is saying that the RTC is suffering a loss to the tune of Rs1,200 crore. The TDP government, he said, had not increased the fares and tried to strengthen the RTC by allocating funds to buy new buses.

He recalled that the TDP government had sanctioned 42 percent fitment to the RTC employees. He alleged the government is not increasing additional facilities to the bus passengers and now increasing the fares. The TDP leader termed the YSRCP government as anti-people and condemned the decision of the government.
