Tirupati: De-addiction centre comes up at Ruia Hospital

Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy formally inaugurating de-addiction centre at Ruia Hospital in Tirupati on Friday

Tirupati: The de-addiction centre attached to the psychiatry department in Ruia Hospital was inaugurated online by the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy from Tadepalli on Friday. Along with this centre, he inaugurated 15 such centres across the state. Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy was present at the de-addiction centre at the time of inauguration and formally opened it in Ruia Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister has said that the government has been going towards total prohibition of liquor in a phased manner. He appealed women to bring the addicts to the centre for de-addiction treatment.

It may be noted that then health minister Kamineni Srinivas inaugurated the separate building of de-addiction centre on November 23, 2016 along with the OT block of Orthopaedics. The new facility was established to provide better services to the needy.

Besides people addicted to alcohol, nicotine, cocaine, sedatives and drugs and several other addicts were visiting the hospital for treatment. Among them those with drug induced psychiatric disorders will be admitted in the de-addiction centre.
