Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee lambasts Jagan for duping backward classes on quota in local bodies
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) lambasted the Jagan administration here on Wednesday stating that it had cheated the backward classes in providing reservations in the local bodies.
APCC president Dr Sake Sailajanath in a statement said that the YS Jagan government went back on its word that it would protect the 34 per cent reservations for the backward classes in the local body elections. He demanded that the government file a special leave petition in the Supreme Court immediately for the protection of reservations to the backward classes. He recalled that the Kiran Kumar Reddy government filed an appeal in the Supreme Court and got relief ensuring 60.5 per cent reservations for the backward classes in 2013.
"If the government is sincere it should introduce and pass a Bill in the Assembly on the reservations," he demanded.
It was alleged that the petitioner against the reservations in the High Court was supported by the YSRCP leaders and the same petitioner worked in the erstwhile TDP government which was leading to various doubts, he said.
