Vijayawada: District administration ready for polls said Collector A Mohammad Imtiaz
Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector A Mohammad Imtiaz, while releasing the list of reservations for the ZPTC, MPTC and MPP seats, announced here on Friday that the district administration was ready to conduct elections.
He said that the elections to the 49 ZPTC, 49 MPP, 812 MPTC seats in the 49 rural mandals would be conducted. "Earlier, there used to be 836 MPTC seats in the district and since some villages were merged with the municipalities, elections would be conducted to 812 MPTC seats."
He said that elections would also be conducted for the municipal corporations of Vijayawada and Machilipatnam and all municipalities. And finally, the elections for the village panchayats would be held.
Of the 980 village panchayats in the district, elections would be held for the 9,692 wards in the 961 village panchayats. As many as 11,000 ballot boxes were kept ready for the panchayat elections.
The District Collector said that there were 22,69,932 voters in the rural areas and 12,36,277 voters in the urban areas. He said that 56,612 polling staff drawn from various departments were ready for the elections. He said that with the cooperation of the police department strict police bandobust would be arranged in problematic areas.
Webcasting would be arranged with the help of the engineering students.
The candidates who try to induce the voters indulging in malpractices would be imprisoned for three years and they would be barred from contesting the elections in future.
Joint Collector Dr K Madhavi Lata, Municipal Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh, Joint Collector-2 Mohan Kumar, Zilla Parishad CEO Suryaprakash and others were present.
