Vijayawada: Farmers under the auspices of Andhra Pradesh Rythu Sangham took out a protest rally in Vijayawada, demanding that the Indian government withdraw its decision to import chicken legs from the US.

The farmers' leaders said the Indian poultry sector would suffer a huge loss financially if the US chicken is imported to India. The rally was conducted from Press Club to Lenin Centre in the city.

The Rythu Sangham leader KVV Prasad, speaking on the occasion, said America was the second biggest trade partner with India after China. He said India is the ninth biggest trade partner for America and been planning to dump the American poultry and chicken into India.

He said the US is the largest chicken producer in the world and India is the fourth largest poultry in the world. If India allows US chicken, Indian farmers will suffer huge loss.

He said the objective of the USA was to save their poultry industry by exporting to India.
