Vijayawada: Home Minister Mekatoti Sucharita has said impartial probe will be conducted against the accused in the attack on Transport Minister in Machilipatnam on Sunday.

The Home Minister along with the DGP D Gautam Sawang visited the residence of Minister Perni Nani in Machilipatnam and expressed sympathies with him. A mason Badugu Nageswara Rao attacked the Minister Perni Nani with a trowel on Sunday. Luckily, the Minister escaped unhurt.

Referring to the incident, Sucharita said the police will conduct impartial inquiry on the incident. She said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused is a sympathiser of Telugu Desam Party and earlier reportedly worked as booth agent in the elections.

When asked about the security lapses, the Home Minister said it would be difficult to provide foolproof security to the Ministers because they are closely associated with the people and they are in public life. She said the attack on the Minister was totally unexpected and pointed out that the Minister was organising a big programme at his residence when the attack took place.

She said the Transport Minister has close association with common people and often goes for the visits on two-wheelers. Sucharitha said, "We are giving freedom to the people because many people come to meet Ministers for various purposes and it is difficult to understand who comes with what intention and motive."
