Vijayawada: Railway staff bag safety awards

Vijayawada: Three employees of Vijayawada Railway division bagged the Man of the Month safety awards. Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway, presented the safety awards to 10 employees for showing alertness while performing their duties and taking timely action to prevent major accidents.

The awards were presented during the safety meeting held on Wednesday at Rail Nilayam, Secunderabad along with Principle Heads of Departments. Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) of all the six divisions viz., Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Nanded Divisions and Carriage Workshop Managers, Lallaguda and Tirupati participated through videoconference.

The awardees are N Suresh Kumar, Track Maintainer, Eluru for detecting rail failure at Eluru yard and intimating the same to all concerned, Y Nagaraju, SS, Tadepalligudem, for noticing unusual sound while train passing the station and detecting rail breakage on down main line and T Srinivasa Rao, Sr Tech, C&W, Kakinada Port for noticing side bearer in broken & critical position while examining a wagon bound towards Visakhapatnam.

The General Manger reviewed the punctuality and loading performance of the zone and instructed the officials to make technical study to improve further. He instructed the officials to make action plans for approaching financial year in advance to improve cement, food grains and fertilizers loading which are primary sectors to enhance loading.

He advised all the Divisional Railway Managers of the zone to counsel the Loco Pilots/Shunters regularly as to avoid untoward incidents in yards.

He also advised them to accord top priority for the safety of the train services.
