Vijayawada: The Joint Action Committee of the Amaravati Parirakshana Samiti tells government not to misuse SC/ST Act

Vijayawada: The Joint Action Committee of the Amaravati Parirakshana Samiti (APS ) appealed to the government not to use the SC/ST (Atrocities) Act to meet its selfish goals.

JAC convener A Shiva Reddy addressing newsmen at the Samiti office here on Friday said that false cases under the provisions of the SC/ST Act were foisted against JAC leader Vamsi Krishna for supporting the women agitators of Amaravati by providing bus services to visit all the villages. He said that they would wage a legal battle against the police and the government for filing false cases against the JAC members.

JAC leader Vamsi Krishna who was released from judicial custody recently, said that his family members were worried when he was lodged in the Sattenapalli sub-jail for nine days. He said that the State government was provoking the agitators by foisting SC/ST Act cases even if anybody raised slogans of 'Jai Amaravati'. He said that he was in Vijayawada when the incident involving a member of Parliament Nandigam Suresh took place and he was illegally included in the list of accused under the provisions of SC/ST Act.

JAC district convener RV Swamy said they had approached the National Human Rights Commission after the police filed cases illegally against the farmers and women. He said that the Commission member Rekha was informed about the issue along with the evidence. She assured that the commission members would visit Amaravati soon, he said adding that the JAC members would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amitabh Shah soon.

Later, the members of Naredco, women leaders felicitated Vamsi Krishna.

JAC leaders Y Ramana Rao, K Rajendra, Paruchuri Kiran, Malineni Narayana Prasad, Muppalla Phani Kumar, Nerella Vamsikrishna, Sunkara Padmasri and others were present.
