Marking the World Environment Day, the Communist party members formed a human chain as symbolic representation to the disaster that took place on May 7 at the plant and demand the government to take action against the LG management for violating the environmental laws and notifications.

The CITU members said though they planned to observe at several places the event at many places, the police refused to grant them permission.

Speaking on the occasion, CITU AP state committee president Ch Narasinga Rao condemned the arrest of activists by the police. He said it's a fight between the people of India and MNCs.

"Even at this stage, after all the reports of different committees have found fault with the LG management, the government chose to side with the management," he alleged. He thanked the international community that stood in solidarity and added that the fight will continue to save the nation and to protect the environment.

He also demanded that the company management be arrested immediately and the plant should be shifted from the densely populated area, compensation be paid to all the eligible candidates, including Rs 1 crore compensation to the recently deceased, and health cards to all victims with establishment of a super specialty hospital at Venkatapuram.
