Visakhapatnam: Educate kids on moral values

Update: 2019-12-07 00:55 IST

Visakhapatnam: It was a celebration of sorts in several parts of Visakhapatnam as soon as the alleged police encounter news of the four accused in the rape-murder case of Hyderabad veterinarian Disha broke out on Friday morning.

Lauding the police action, president of the Forum of Legal Professionals Kuppili Muralidhar shares that though the nation heaved a sigh of relief, investigation officers must ensure scientific investigation. "More CCTV cameras must be facilitated at vulnerable points.

FIRs should not be refused by the police in any police station on the pretext of territorial jurisdiction. Eventually, the rule of law should prevail and punishment should be awarded through the legal system and not by the investigation agency."

About measures to be considered to curb violence against women, Principal of Delhi Public School, Anandapuram, Eshwari Prabhakar says, "There is a need to look into the issue in a larger perspective.

The first step towards this is to educate children on moral values and make them respect the opposite gender. It is a concerted effort of both parents as well as teachers to help them impart moral values, leading by example."

Appreciating the action, state secretary of the Congress party S Sudhakar says, "The encounter teaches a befitting lesson for the perpetrators. There is a need to bring in changes in the law so that it should scare those with dirty minds before committing such heinous crime in future."

Echoing similar views, All India Democratic Women's Association members mentioned that efforts should be taken to avoid such incidents in future. Though they feel happy for the justice being served for Disha, they urged the government to take steps to ban liquor and free access to obscene content on the internet which continue to influence the minds of perpetrators.
