Armed with masks and maintaining social distancing, GITAM celebrates the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale

Visakhapatnam: Marking the 200th birth anniversary of 'The Lady with the Lamp' Florence Nightingale, GITAM School of Nursing observed International Nurses Day at its campus here on Tuesday.

Paying tributes, the staff recalled the significant contribution made by Florence Nightingale, founder of modern-day nursing. GITAM School of Nursing Principal Kanaka Lakshmi appreciated the nursing staff, particularly those serving the GIMSR in times of coronavirus.

She mentioned that around 250 nurses lost their lives throughout the world while treating cononavirus patients. The Principal mentioned that when conditions are such, nurses still set aside their fears and accord top priority to their duty. The untiring efforts of the nurses in times of pandemic were lauded by the management of the institution. Kanaka Lakshmi further added that it was an opportunity to celebrate the history, work, and achievement of the nurses and midwives around the world and recognise the challenges faced by them.

The day was celebrated by garlanding the bust of Florence Nightingale by the staff, maintaining social distancing.
