Visakhapatnam: Several parts in city witness rain
Visakhapatnam: On Wednesday evening, several parts of Visakhapatnam district witnessed rain accompanied by gales. A number of low-lying areas were water-logged, including Convent junction and Gajuwaka. Vehicular movement was disrupted for a while due to rain and subsequent water-logging. Meanwhile, a branch from a tree fell on the road near Ram Nagar area. Under the influence of the low pressure, strong surface winds from northerly direction, with speed reaching 40 – 50 km/hr are likely along and off north coastal AP and from westerly direction, with speed reaching 40 – 50 km/hr are likely along and off south coastal AP till the evening of June 12, according to the Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC), Visakhapatnam.
The southwest monsoon has further advanced into the remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, parts of west central and north Bay of Bengal, parts of Assam and Nagaland.
According to the IMD, conditions appear to be favourable for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of central Arabian Sea, Goa, parts of Maharashtra, parts of Karnataka and Rayalaseema, Telangana and coastal AP, central and north Bay of Bengal and north-eastern States during the next 48 hours. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off coastal AP till June 12.
