Vizianagaram: Candidates worried over poll postponement
Vizianagaram: Postponement of elections to local bodies has triggered worry among the candidates because of possibility of election expenditure climbing up.
The candidates, who are in the fray both in the elections to local bodies and urban local bodies, have expressed their fear that they may be forced to spend more to keep the cadre in good spirit for six weeks.
The elections to local bodies and urban local bodies would be completed by the month-end if they were held as scheduled. But the sudden announcement of postponement of elections has cast a shadow on the election schedule.
The contestants, mostly those who are in the fray for the posts of Sarpanch, are worried because they may be forced to attend each and every marriage function in their respective village. April happens to be auspicious month for marriages.
A ZPTC candidate from Salur constituency said "I have some reserve fund to meet the election expenditure and I thought the process would be complete by the end of March. But it seems that I have to maintain the cadre for minimum of 45 days more. Then, I have to borrow money from my friends and relatives . It's an additional burden for me," he said.
