Water treatment plant to be installed in Eluru canal

Vijayawada: The district administration is planning to start a pilot project to check contamination of water in Eluru canal by installing a water treatment plant. As part of 'Nenu Saitham,' the Krishna river and canals cleaning programme in the city, the administration started removing plastic waste from canals and river in the city.

Collector Md Imtiaz along with Municipal Commissioner M Rama Rao inspected the Eluru canal on Saturday and enquired about the effluents being released into Eluru canal through drains near Meesala Rajarao bridge. Later, briefing the media, the Collector said the district administration was planning to install water treatment plant on pilot basis to clean the Eluru canal and to prevent the flow of drainage water into canal.

He said water treatment plant will be installed near Meesala Rajarao bridge to convert the drain water into clean water in six phases. He said the plant will be installed by Debris Mining Treasures Private Limited and the same plants will be installed in other canals too in the city in a phased manner. He said the help of voluntary bodies will be taken to execute the pilot project in Eluru canal.

Municipal Commissioner M Rama Rao said the canals cleaning work will continue till the removal of waste materials. VMC Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr A Arjuna Rao and representative of Debris Mining Treasures Ch Srinivas and others accompanied the Collector.
