Hyderabad: City-based Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), the infrastructure major which is implementing major part of Rs 1 lakh crore in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, on Saturday said that it paid Rs 3,000 crore towards Goods & Services Tax (GST), the highest by a company in Telugu States, in the last two years.

"MEIL always follows the stringent rules and regulations of the tax laws. MEIL is the highest GST paid company in both Telugu States in the past two years. We paid more than Rs 3,000 crore GST since the GST law came into force," the infrastructure major said in a statement here.

As a fast growing and successful infrastructure company in the country, Megha Engineering always complies with tax laws, it added.

Refuting allegations levelled in a news report published by an English daily (not The Hans India) that raids were conducted on MEIL for GST evasion, the company said, "this sort of fake news is affecting growing companies, which are generating employment besides contributing to the exchequer through taxes."

It further said that misinformation about the regulator bodies raiding MEIL was circulating. "With no evidence or official confirmation, the newspaper published the news that the GST officials had carried out raids on MEIL.

Although there is no truth in it, a lot of imaginary things have been woven around it. Publishing news without evidence shows the malicious intentions of certain people," it maintained.

MEIL is preparing to take legal action against the newspaper, it added.
