Not permitting uranium mining a welcome step

The unanimous resolution passed by the Telangana Assembly not to permit uranium mining in Nallamala forest in Telangana State is a wise step. The Central agency Atomic Minerals Directorate (AMD) should immediately stop further survey to maintain environment and ecological balance in the region.

Today, the power generation methods have vastly changed like wind energy from hill points and solar energy using various platforms in India and other major countries in the world. These methods ensure power production without creating environmental hazards for future protection of earth resources – land soil, water and air respectively.

Today, most of the advanced nations are exploring the alternative energy resources to be extracted without destructing earth resources. Actually, these natural forest and water resources have been existing from time immemorial and ecology has been balanced with enrichment of resources.

As far as our country is concerned, this destructive exploration should be stopped in order to save the environment around main river basins – Krishna, Godavari, Narmada, Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Indus and Cauvery with catchment areas of forest lands.
