KPCC chief D.K Shivakumar says he will not interfere in Youth Congress president election
Bengaluru: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D.K Shivakumar on Sunday said that he would not interfere in the Youth Congress presidential election.
"Youth Congress president election will be transparent. Let us choose the best leader who can organize the party. I will not interfere in the election," he said.
"Our late leader Rajiv Gandhi was of the view that leaders must grow from taluk to district, State and national level. That is why they brought a constitutional amendment. Elections should be transparent and free. As a party president, I will not stand on behalf of anyone. I appeal to the electorate to send someone who is interested, who has time for the party and who is working hard for the organization."
Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress president Mithun Rai who was one of the candidates for the post of State president of Youth Congress withdrew his nomination on Saturday.
Taking to Facebook, Rai posted, "As I am closely associated with the KPCC President Shri D K Shivakumar, as per his advice and suggestion, I have now decided to withdraw my nomination from the elections for the post of State President. Requesting you all to kindly follow the process and vote for the contestants."
Responding to the issue, Shivakumar said Rai has more responsibility in Mangalore.
"Previously, he had contested the Lok Sabha elections. I had advised him to withdraw from the Youth Congress election. Mithun is my close friend," he said.
