Biometric system from next academic year: Osmania University

Osmania University: OU Arts College Principal Prof D Ravinder has said that biometric attendance would be introduced from the next academic year for both students and lecturers at the university, as part of the reforms being introduced to promote higher education standards.

Addressing the media, he said that two e-class rooms at a cost of Rs 80 lakh would be launched in the next 15 days. The rooms will enable students to view seminars and meetings organised across the world and also pave the way for global viewing of local meetings.

Prof Ravinder said that a month-long training camp for research scholars would be conducted with RUSA funds. He said a plan was devised to provide job opportunities for the trained students through the employment cell. Discussions were under way to take reforms at Arts College with the assistance of an Italian company.

A meeting will be organised after an academic research committee is constituted. It will pave way for discussing the latest research activities of lecturers with the faculty of all departments once in 15 days, he said. A magazine of the Arts College will be also released shortly. "Efforts are on to implement the best practices being taken up across the world in Arts College," he said.

Prof Ravinder said that to mark the anniversary of the Arts College on May 3, a 3k Run would be organised from the college. The anniversary function will be held at 4 pm on the same day in Tagore Auditorium, with Principal Secretary to Agriculture C Parthsarathy participating as the chief guest.
