Drunkard squanders food from community refrigerators

Update: 2019-09-10 23:54 IST

Dilsukhnagar: In what can be termed as sheer senselessness, drunkards have been throwing food packets kept for the needy at the 'Feed the Need' refrigerators.

A drunkard scattered the whole food on Monday night. He even started an argument with the passerby who tried to stop him. The maintenance of the refrigerators is being handled by Apple Home Foundation.

"Most of the times, the refrigerators are being used by drinkers only. They are eating the food here and again drinking with the amount left for the meal. The main purpose of these refrigerators installed by the GHMC is to feed the needy, but it does not seem to serve the purpose," says M Vijay Bhargav, a resident in Dilsukhnagar.

"I regularly keep the food in the refrigerator here in Dilsukhnagar after I close my bakery. I think it is better to throw the food in dustbin rather than keeping it in the refrigerators," says Raghu, the owner of Bengaluru Iyengar Bakery.

"A person came here in an inebriated condition after 11.00 pm on Monday. He didn't get what he wanted and then he started scattering the food on the road. It is such a shameful incident," says Dennis Preetham, a commuter in Dilsukhnagar.
