Dump yard amid colonies causing panic

Ameenpur: The dump yard located between Navya Nagar and Ameenpur road is causing a lot of distress to the locals here. The dump yard was shifted in the middle of all the residential colonies a couple of years back.

The locals alleged that the municipality tempos have been collecting garbage and dumping it right in the middle of all the residential complexes. The garbage from Beeramguda, Ameenpur and nearby areas is collected and dumped here.

With the onset of the monsoon, locals are now complaining that they are falling sick due to the malodorous smell and many other vector-borne diseases occurring because of the dump yard.

Speaking to THI the Municipal Commissioner of Ameenpur, Veman Reddy said, "The previous dump yard had to be moved because of the residents opposing about it, later we shifted the dump yard here, but this area is also now a disputed land and a court case is going on. A 10-acre land near Ameenpur village has been sanctioned by the revenue department and we will shift the dump yard there within the next few months."

He further added, "A processing plant will be set up at the current dumping ground and all the garbage will be segregated and processed here. In the meanwhile, the work at the new dump yard will be initiated and complete."

Muralidharan K, a resident said, "The area which surrounds the dump yard has 20 colonies and around 5,000 houses. This dump yard was created on a disputed land by private autos and its union. It was promised by the civic authorities that they would move it to a permanent place which is far away from residential properties once they arrange funds for the same."

Naresh B, another resident said, "All the colonies are being affected with the malodorous smell, flies, and mosquitoes. Everyone around here is falling sick especially kids. Sometimes the dump is thrown on the roads by these tempos carrying waste. There are almost 5,000 to 6,000 people affected by this."
