GHMC Charminar zone focuses on sanitation
Charminar: Laying emphasis on improving the condition of sanitation, the officials of GHMC (Charminar Zone) have decided to further streamline the existing staff of health and sanitation staff. With regular field visits and meetings, they hope to overcome the impact of RTC strike on logistics of the garbage collection, as some of their contract staff like drivers have got behind the wheels of RTC buses.
On Thursday, new Zonal Commissioner N Samrat Ashok, along with Deputy Commissioner S N Surya Kumar, inspected the surroundings of Charminar along. They discussed about improving the conditions and spoke to few local traders. About a week ago, GHMC Additional Commissioner (Sanitation) Sujatha Gupta also conducted inspection at Charminar along with new Zonal Commissioner and officials.
GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar on Wednesday held a video conference with the officials of Charminar Zone. Officials of different wings answered the queries of Commissioner from the Charminar Zone's new office which was recently shifted at a newly constructed building at Narqi Phoolbagh under Chandrayangutta Circle.
Besides sanitation, the officials discussed various developmental projects and other issues of concern. Following the video conference, the Zonal Commissioner held a separate meeting along with Deputy Commissioners, project officials and other staff. Later another meeting was held with sanitation staff. They were asked to be more focused approach on sanitation, for which the Zonal Commissioner asked to them to streamline the mechanism and draw a strategy before the issue of sanitation creates a problem once again.
It may be mentioned here that in the month of October following the beginning of RTC strike the GHMC faced huge problem of logistics, as garbage piled up raising concerns of health-related issues, as most of the temporary drivers decided to work for RTC to make some quick bucks. Complaints started pouring in from different localities to the offices of the GHMC. This also prompted quick meetings of local MLAs with GHMC officials, including Zonal Commissioner to contain the problem.
