Hyderabad: Two-wheeler Helmet Manufacturers Association, which has been proactively taking up the matter of helmet safety in India, has appreciated the move of Cyberabad Police banning non-ISI/duplicate helmets in the city.

Welcoming the drive of Cyberabad Police against selling fake and duplicate helmets, the association said this move would definitely curb fatal injuries during road accidents, especially for two-wheeler riders.

Cyberabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar, along with Traffic DCP SM Vijay Kumar on Tuesday had conducted a meeting with helmet shops owners and distributors on imposing ban on duplicate and low-quality helmets in twin cities. Also, a large number of duplicate and fake helmets were displayed at Cyberabad CP office main gate.

Lauding the move, association president Rajeev Kapur said, "Wearing a helmet decreases severity of injuries by 72 per cent and the likelihood of death by up to 39 per cent. We really appreciate the move of Cyberabad Police to implement the helmet rule in the city.

The step taken in stopping the use of non-ISI helmets in the city needs to be replicated across the country. Most importantly, a BIS certified helmet should be used by the rider, which will surely decrease the number of deaths taking place due to road accidents.
