Jawaharnagar Inspector, constable set afire by mob, several booked

Several people were booked under various sections of IPC for setting Jawaharnagar Inspector Bikshapathi Rao and constable Arun on fire at Balajinagar on Thursday when the police officials tried to remove the encroachments from government land.

Getting into details, the Jawaharnagar inspector on the request of Municipal Commissioner N Mangamma went to the site where the demolition of illegal construction on government land is being carried out by the revenue officials.

While the police officials were on duty, a group of people and some other local politicians prevented the officials from discharging their duties. Besides, using filthy language against the officials, the mob also sprinkled chilli powder on them.

During the clash, a few persons tried to self-immolate by pouring kerosene on themselves on the construction site. Upon noticing the huge flames, the police rushed to rescue the people, however, the persons pour kerosene on the inspector and constable and set them on fire.

Both Inspector and the constable sustained serious burn injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment.

The persons identified as Nihal Chand, Shantha Devi, Nirmal, Poonam Chand, Balsingh, Chinarampatel, Geetha, Godavari, Yogi Kamal, Madan Lal and the local politicians Rangula Shankar, Shobha Reddy and their associates were booked under section 332, 333, 353, 307 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code.

The case is being investigated by Uppal CI Ranga Swamy and is monitored by Malkajgiri DCP Rakshitha Murthy.
