Lakdi-ka-pul bridge inauguration today
Lakdi-ka-pul: The wooden bridge being inaugurated here on Thursday by GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and several ministers is expected to beautify the area junction. Local legislators, Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and several corporators are expected to attend the function.
The bridge is part of over Rs 30-lakh junction improvement work taken up under the stewardship of Khairatabad Zonal Commissioner Musharaf Ali. It will surely remind locals of the old structure after which the area is named. The Ayodhya junction beautification work has commenced. Already the junctions at Sangeet and Suchitra have been beautified, while those at L B Nagar and Chintalkunta are to be shortly taken up.
'Lakdi' means wood in Hindi. Old timers say that there used to be a wooden bridge supported with wooden poles and that is how the place came to be named. The GHMC has come up with a bridge, symbolic in nature, to remind people of the past. The project is part of the city beautification programme. Each pillar is eight feet in height and one feet width, the railing is 14 meters long and 1.2 meters wide. The bridge is made up of fibre. Officials say that it gives a look and feel of wood and the maintenance is minimal. Officials say that the place could become a landmark and a selfie point and would resonate with the common man and tourists.
