Making Hyderabadis sing in their mother tongues
Continuing from its successful debut a few months ago, Dakshin Dhwani is proposing to hold its next multi-lingual music programme 'Tongue Twister- An Open Mic Event' on June 15 at Phoenix Arena, Madhapur from 7/30 pm onwards.
The basic idea behind this programme, as the organisers point out, is to showcase the cosmopolitan ambience of Hyderabad and how film songs in various Indian languages have gone on to entertain their respective audiences over decades.
'We are blessed with a bouquet of languages which add their own beauty and sweetness in the colourful society of ours' says Mudit Kapoor, a fan of modern Hindi film music but yet going on to belt out a Telugu film number in one of the recent programmes held by the group two months ago.
'I watched the film and liked the song sequence, the lead pair and the lilting tune of the song' he adds as he recounts the heart-warming support he got when he belted out the song ' Inkem Inkem Kavale' from the hit film 'Geeta Govindam'.
' I know I must have been not perfect with the pronunciation of the lyrics and I am sure that I did not understand its meaning too' he confesses. Yet, enthusiasts like him make up the dedicated audience who have sung songs in Kashmiri, Bengali, Punjabi and Tamil etc in these programmes.
'The latest one is also going to follow the same theme and we want more and more enthusiasts to join us, sing their songs and feel good about their music and tunes' says Shalini Raakendra, one of the organisers of the show. The group members assure that the programme is likely to be one more unforgettable weekend event.
