A musical mix of desh bhakti and melodies
Blending patriotism with nostalgia, Dakshin Dhwani, a city-based group of vintage Hindi music lovers is coming up with a two-hour musical evening ‘Yeh Raatein, Yeh Mausam’. In operation since 2016, the music group has conducted more than 25 programmes under its ‘Monthly Movie Memories’ series, in which it takes up the works of legends as per their birth/death anniversaries, month after month.
‘We selected the January 26 weekend as it gave us a readymade opportunity to include unforgettable patriotic numbers sung by our unmatched playback singers of yore. We requested our singers to include one song each of their choice and this will set in the much-needed balance between the love for the nation and the scintillating musical melodies of the yesteryears’ informed Rimjhim Gour, the organiser of the programme.
In all, 24 icons, including 11 film directors and the rest comprising playback singers, lyricists and music directors have been listed. ‘Since the number is huge and we cannot hold audience attention for more than two hours at best, we decided to include their top songs in the form of a medley as a special tribute to be shown at the beginning of the programme’ reveals Rimjhim, who is a great fan of retro music, despite being a young 24 years of age.
On a Saturday night, as the rest of the world turns feverish with EDM, Dakshin Dhwani thus is trying to lend its own sounds, albeit drawn from the time when things used to be much more easy paced and simple.
