Hyderabad: City mayor BonthuRammohan toured various areas of the city to inspect sanitation and mosquito prevention activities as part of GHMC drive to prevent seasonal diseases on Tuesday. The city mayor, along with zonal commissioner J Shankaraiah and chief entomologist Rambabu, visited Lalapet, Vinoba Nagar and Manikeshwar Nagar.

During his field trip, he was shocked to find unclean surroundings which are conducive for mosquito breeding. He expressed his anger at several house owners for not removing water from empty boxes, tree pots and water tap pits in their premises, despite several awareness campaigns that dengue is spread through mosquitoes breeding in stagnated water.

During his visit to Manekeshwar Nagar, he personally removed water from concrete slabs over windows. Later, the mayor visited Nikhita, a girl who has been taking medical treatment for dengue fever, at Vinoba Nagar and spoke to her.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor urged residents to close the overhead tanks with covers and remove water from tap pits every day. He also urged them to ensure that there was no water stagnation in their premises and throw away used coconut shells, old tyres, empty pots, broken drums and use mosquito nets. He advised them to go to nearby basti davakhana or area hospital in case of fevers with severe headaches.
