Mock polls held for PwD voters

Falaknuma: As part of awareness programme on election process, the GHMC officials conducted mock polls at Jangammet ward office in Old City which was attended by PwD (Persons with Disability) voters.

Deputy Project Officer and SVEEP (Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation) Nodal Officer N Venugopal said that PwD attended the meeting in huge numbers. "PwD meeting was conducted on accessibility of transportation, wheel chairs facilities, volunteer's help, VAADA app (Voter Accessibility App for the differently abled), an application developed by GHMC).

Later pledge on vote and mock poll was conducted at Jangammet ward office. The programme was attended by ward wise disabled persons and other officials including VVPAT mobile van in-charge," he added.

It may be mentioned here that Election Commission of India have paid special focus on PwD to cast their votes on the day of elections. Administration is also ensuring that all the PwD are provided pick and drop facility to the polling booths, so that they are not deprived of using their rights to exercise their franchise during Lok Sabha polls.

Special awareness programmes are being regularly organised for the PwD voters to encourage them to cast their votes by local administration, based on the direction of Election Commission.
