Charminar: In a major breakthrough for a party that recently came into existence, the All India Majlis Inquilab-e-Millat (AIMIM) has organised a membership drive at Charminar bus stop area which is perceived as a bastion of the old MIM Party.

The drive received a tremendous response from the people of Old City, who turned up in large numbers to get membership of the party that made inroads into the political domain of the Telangana state, with an aim to provide representation to every community irrespective of religion.

The party mostly led by senior advocates, in just a span of three hours, enrolled 750 members during membership drive and still a large number of people waited in queue to take their turn. "The drive started at 2 pm and went on till 5 pm.

A number of people were left disappointed as the police permitted us to hold the drive only till 5 pm. We are very much surprised by the response of Old City people. It appears as if they have been waiting for a new political platform with fresh and all-encompassing views," said advocate Qavi Abbasi, the general secretary of AIMIM.

"People from every community showed their faith in us during the drive and took membership cards with them. Especially, the women folk gathered in large numbers to be a part of our party," he claimed. Party President Syed Tareq Qadri, vice-president Hamed Hussain Shuttari, Samad Azad and others were present.
