No Flood Threat To Osman Nagar: Pipeline work completed a day before HC deadline

Jalpally: Amid tension over the release of flood water that swamped entire Osman Nagar area, officials of Jalpally Municipality completed the 1.5-km-long pipe line to drain out clogged water to Badangpet via Venkatapur village.

This development comes after the High Court on Tuesday took a serious note over the alleged laxity of the officials in dealing with the issue and granted 15 day to Municipal Commissioner G P Kumar, to complete draining out water. However, according to officials, the pipeline work was completed on a war-footing a day before the court hearing.

As the area is situated within the periphery of Osman Nagar Lake, the entire habitation was inundated after incessant rain in October. "There was a delay in executing the work, as people in Venkatapur were strongly protesting against the pipeline being laid to through their village.

On one occasion, officials were attacked by villagers with stones to force them out of their area. However, the work is now completed, and we have even begun releasing water gradually with less intensity to avoid any inconvenience to the residents on the other end," said Kumar.

He said the area is swamped into four feet of clogged water. "As we have begun releasing water through the pipeline, the result will come out in a week, as the water level starts depleting, but will take 15 days to boil-down the issue completely. Though the HC ordered us to pump out water in ten days, the commissioner persuaded the court to grant at least 20 days. Though we are facing jurisdictional conflict too in the case, but will tide over the issue with the given time," the official asserted.

"We have completed 90 per cent of the work. The issue will be resolved soon. In the absence of any State government contribution, we have taken up the work, away from our jurisdiction, and completed it with municipal funds," rued Abdullah Sadi, municipal chairmen.
