Update: 2019-09-25 02:39 IST

Talabkatta: The second phase of Talabkatta Railway under Bridge (RuB) has started on the battered side of the road, which not only caused water logging, but also became accident prone.

Following a report, 'Incomplete RuB works causing accidents,' published in The Hans India on September 17, the authorities started the works on September 22.

Even though one of the damaged sides of the road were taken in the first phase of the RuB and completed around two months ago, the other side of the road remained battered. It was also causing accidents due to incomplete works.

"The works were left pending due to the recent festivities, delay by the contractor, engineering department and owing to overdue permission from traffic police. Now, the works are taken up and will be completed within 8 to 10 days," said Nasreen Sultana, corporator, Talabchanchalam.

The corporator also said that she submitted a representation to the Hyderabad MP and Local MLA about the delay of works by contractors and other departments. On the instructions of Hyderabad MP, the works started, she added.

According to Abdul Rahman, a social activist, the works are going on at a snail's pace. The road has been dug-up for about a quarter kilometer. "Generally, such works should be taken up in night hours on a busy road like this, but the GHMC is taking up the works in daytime, causing inconvenience to the motorists and pedestrians.

Such works should be completed as early as possible, as it is the only road which connects this part of the city to Charminar. Due to the on-going works, the traffic snarls has become a regular phenomenon and commuters are facing a tough time," he said.

Rahman also said that as per the RTI, the works of the Talabkatta RuB were sanctioned over a year ago and about Rs 18 lakh were allotted. But, the works of first phase started in mid-July. The first phase of the RuB was completed within 8 to 10 days. The authorities are taking up the pending works after almost two months break.

"Moreover there is no deployment of traffic police to control the traffic. But, now as the works started, the locals are trying to ease the traffic congestion in the absence of traffic police," he added.
