Regularise illegal water connections: Mayor Bonthu Rammohan

Hyderabad: Bonthu Rammohan, Mayor, GHMC along with Chief General Manager (Sainikpuri) M Swamy and General Manager of Uppal S Kiran, released a poster with the slogan of 'Stop wastage of water and regularise illegal water connection' on Tuesday.

On the occasion, the Mayor appealed to the citizens to utilise the opportunity given by the government to regularize their illegal water connections in the City by voluntarily disclosure. The Mayor said the HMWS&SB was supplying water by drawing nearly 200km distance from Krishna and Godavari rivers and filtering 472 MG at a cost of Rs 47 per 1,000 litres.

The HMWS&SB was supplying 214.73 crore litres of water per day for one crore population. Out of this, nearly 37% was unaccountable which is in the form of wastage and illegal connections.

Earlier the penalty for illegal connection was two times of connection charges and three years of user charges in the bill. In order to streamline the illegal connections and to get monthly user charges bill, the MA&UD issued G.O. no. 690 dated October 24, 2019. The offer should be completed within three months from November 22 to February 21, 2020.

The Mayor also said those who are willing to regularize their illegal connections under Voluntary Disclosure Scheme should pay Rs 10,000 for normal water connection and they should approach the nearest HMWS&SB office.
