Hyderabad: In order to provide better transport facilities in the city, GHMC is attaching great importance to road-widening works and acquisition of land for construction of proposed elevated corridor (flyover) from Uppal road towards Warangal route.

A 150-ft road is proposed for construction of elevated corridor, as part of signal-free travelling system under the Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP), said Mayor Dr Bonthu Rammohan.

The Mayor and MLA Subash Reddy gave away cheques to the persons affected by the road widening works. The cheques were issued for Rs 17 crore. The GHMC already made payments worth Rs 31 crore as compensation to the owners of structures coming in the way of the works.

The Mayor disclosed that now only 84 properties need to be acquired, out of 257 properties required, and most of their owners have agreed to give land for the road-widening project. So far, 33 properties had been demolished. A total of seven religious and six government properties are to be razed as part of the project. To provide alternative routes to ease the traffic flow, it had been proposed to construct a road along Musi river from Ali Café, Amberpet, to Uppal Metro Station, said the Mayor.

MLA Subash Reddy mentioned that as Uppal is on the east side of the city, most of the development activities are taking place in Uppal Constituency and the place is developing much faster. He requested the Mayor to allocate a special budget to provide better amenities in the Uppal constituency area. Corporator A Hunmath Reddy, Chief City Planner Devender Reddy, DMC Krishna Kishore and others participated in the programme.
