Sanathnagar reservoir inaugurated
Sanathnagar: The Telangana Minster for Animal Husbandry, Dairy, Fisheries and Cinematography, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, along with MLC Ramachandar Rao and Jalamandali MD M Dana Kishore, inaugurated 5 million litre (ML) reservoir, which was built at an estimated cost of Rs 7.27 crore, as part of HUDCO's pilot project, here on Thursday.
The pilot project was taken up to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) and increase revenue, based on the instructions of MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao. The reservoir, built at Alwyn Colony, would improve water supply in and around areas in Sanathnagar constituency.
Once the reservoir becomes fully operational, water would be supplied at an appropriate pressure to colonies and improve water supply. This would enable colonies, without water connection, get clean and unpolluted water, thanks to the reservoir.
Expressing happiness over the completion of the pilot project, Talasani said Sanathnagar would receive national acclaim once the project becomes operational. Later, he participated in door-to-door water marking programme organised by WaLC and gave blue mark to an apartment based on the minimum wastage of water.
Stressing on the importance of water conservation, Jalamandali MD Dana Kishore said that precious water was being wasted by some due to lack of awareness on the efforts being made by the government to supply water from Godavari and Krishna rivers. While the government incurs Rs 47 for every thousand litres, water was being supplied for Rs 10 for the same quantity on subsidy, he said.
If the quantity of water wasted in Hyderabad was saved, it would be sufficient enough to supply entire town of Karimnagar, he added. Dana Kishore gave Powerpoint presentation on sewerage, mapping of drinking water pipelines, geotagging of manholes, WaLC, household survey and robotic technology being used in sewerage.
