Nampally: A conference with a slogan 'Nallamala is Ours' was held at NTR Auditorium here on Sunday. Retired High Court Chief Justice Chandra Kumar, scientist Babu Rao, senior journalist Ramachandra Murthy, retired IRS officer Prasad Shastri, cine actor R Narayana Murthy and others spoke at the conference.

Speaking at the conference, cine actor Narayana Murthy recalled a Supreme court judgement ruling against mining of bauxite and uranium. He expressed fears that the mining in the Nallamala forest may endanger the tribal communities such as Chenchus, apart from causing water and air pollution.

He demanded that the central government withdraw its proposal to mine uranium in the forest. Referring to the resolution passed in the state assembly, he said that even the state government was opposed to the central government's proposal.

Emphasising the need for preserving nature for human sustenance, Justice Chandra Kumar said that big multinational companies and weapons manufacturers had been destroying the planet Earth for their self-interests.

"Development of Ambanis and Adanis was not true development but the nation is said to be developed only when every section of the society reaps benefits of the development," he said. He expressed his concern over increasing adulteration of products in India.
