1,483 polling stations set up in city limits

Vijayawada: In wake of the upcoming general elections in the State, special measures will be taken in the Vijayawada city to maintain law and order and for smooth conduct of elections, said Police Commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao.

Speaking to media here on Sunday, the Commissioner said that the security arrangements would be provided under commissionarate limits of 104 sectors in 161 routes at 1,483 polling stations in 508 locations. He said that the department has identified 873 sensitive polling centers in 368 locations and taken steps to deploy additional forces at these areas.

He said that 161 armed mobile forces, 12 surveillance teams, 44 Station Home Officers (SHO)s, 8 ACPs of Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) rank officers were deployed to maintain law and order. Meanwhile, under Section 430, cases were filed on 1,043 rowdy-sheeters. As many as 284 licensed weapons were recovered from 378 people besides 493 warrants were issued so far.

He further informed that people carrying cash or valuables should obtain receipt or bill for the transactions. Section 144 of 30 Act was in force under the commissionarate limits and people should not move in groups, according to the commissioner.
