Vijayawada Electric Loco Shed bags ISO 50001:2011
Vijayawada: Electric Loco Shed, Vijayawada bagged the prestigious Energy Management System ISO 50001:2011 certification for a period of nine months from November 21 to August 2021 for implementing Energy Management practices at the best and unique standards in the year 2020.
Electric Loco Shed (ELS) has bagged a total of five ISO certifications during last two years. ISO 50001:2011 is an international standard for energy management It specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and improving an energy management system, whose purpose was to enable an organisation to follow a systematic approach in achieving continual improvement of energy performance, including energy efficiency, energy use and consumption.
ELS have undergone testing of energy-related parameters by authorised firm during May and November 2020 and found compliant to all parameters related to effect on energy with respect to ISO-50001:2011 certification. After implementation of best energy saving measures, ELS have saved approximately 10,000 to 15,000 units per month against previous year. During the year 2019-20 the total electrical consumption from April 19 to December 20 was 7.29 lakh units and now for the same corresponding period it is around 5.33 lakh units. Electric Loco Shed had already bagged four ISO certifications on quality, environment, workplace and occupational health and safety management systems during last two years. The following were energy saving measures implemented at ELS, Vijayawada to conform to ISO 50001:2011 certification
Installation of Energy meters at critical locations to find out the specific energy consuming equipment and prepared action plan to reduce the energy.
Replacing all the T5 40-watt tube lights with 20-watt LED tubes and providing on grid 40kwp solar panel which was generating 50units/day, installation of solar 10kwp solar pump and 10kwp solar water heaters for domestic purpose.
All the streetlights of 45-watt have been replaced with 18-watt LED streetlights. And now phase wise replacement of 18-watt LED streetlights with solar lights is being planned. Solar streetlights are provided in yard near points.
Replacement of all high mast and tower lights of 400-watt capacity with 150-watt LED lights. All old ACs were replaced with 5star rated ACs.
Replaced 50 old ceiling fans with BLDC type ceiling fans.
