Warangal: Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao has appealed to people to support the efforts of the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) to put itself ahead in the rankings of Swachh Survekshan-2021, an annual survey of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation across the country.

Flagging off the rally 'Wow – Wellbeing Out of Waste', an awareness initiative on sanitation and environment friendly practices, along with Urban District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu and Municipal Commissioner Pamela Satpathy, here on Wednesday, the Mayor said that the civic body has deployed 311 Swachh autos to collect the waste produced from nearly 2.55 households in the tri-cities of Warangal-Hanamkonda-Kazipet. He sought the denizens to separate dry and wet waste before handing over to the sanitation staff.

Urban Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu urged the people to cooperate with the civic body in winning the Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge by keeping the city clean. Pamela Satpathy said that change should begin from the 5,000 sanitation workers. "The sanitation workers should stand like a beacon for the 9 lakh population in the city," Satpathy said, quoting Mahatma Gandhi's words 'Be the change you want to see'.

Medical and Health Officer Dr Raji Reddy urged the denizens to cooperate with them to bag a better ranking in 2021. It may be recalled here that the city was ranked 144 in 2019.
