Cricket betting racket busted, three arrested
Hyderabad: West Zone Task Force police on Tuesday busted a cricket betting racket and arrested three organisers, Rajesh Singh (54), Neeraj Singh (29) and Laxmikanth Varma (32).
The police seized Rs 1.50 lakh, a TV set, set top box, seven cell phones and other material from possession of the suspects. The police said Rajesh had hatched a plan to organise cricket betting and collect the betting amounts directly and indirectly through cell phones from the punters.
He was collecting and distributing the amounts of betting to nearly 25 to 30 punters in twin cities for six months. On commission basis, he hired two others. On Tuesday, while running cricket betting in an organized manner at Dattatreya colony under Asif Nagar on ongoing IPL match between Chennai Super Kings Vs Sunrisers of Hyderabad, the police nabbed them.
