Army Chief: Situation Along India-China Border Under Control

Chief of Army Staff General MM Naravane told the media on Saturday morning that the situation along India's border with China is under control. The Army chief said that a process of disengagement had taken place on both sides and that differences between the two countries will be resolved.

General Naravane observed that a series of meetings had taken place between senior officers of both sides and this had resulted in a lot of disengagement from both sides. He added that the situation on the border was under control.

General Naravane recalled that talks between senior officers of both sides began at the Corps Commander level and had been followed up with meetings at local levels between commanders of equivalent ranks. The Army chief said that he was hopeful that through continued dialogue, all perceived differences between India and China would be set to rest.

General Naravane's statement comes in the light of reports that Indian Chinese troops had begun a process of mutual disengagement in areas of eastern Ladakh. This is where tension had escalated following reports of Chinese aggression in the Pangong Lake area in early May.

Both India and China subsequently deployed troops at several point points along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in an eyeball to eyeball confrontation. The tension between India and China on the border has been reported to be the most serious since the Doklam stand-off in 2017.
