Bangalorians can now purchase sand through their mobiles

BENGALURU: The state government is going to set up sand bazaars (markets) across the state to make sure sand is easily available,sand mafia is controlled and the sand business is regulated.

Urban development minister U T Khader said that a sand market started on a pilot basis in Mangaluru is currently operating successfully. Looking at the pilot's success, the government has decided to extend the bazaars to all districts.

People who wish to buy should have their mobile numbers registered with the mines and geology department. When they have the requirement, they will have to send an SMS to the department mentioning the quantity of sand.

The sand will reach the customer's doorstep within 48 hours of placing the order. "We have fixed Rs 50 per kilometre for sand transporters. Payment for sand suppliers and transporters will be online," the minister added.
