The Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases. It started on April 11 and ended on May 19. For 542 seats over 2,000 parties and 8,000 candidates contested. This was the 17th Lok Sabha Election. The majority party members will decide the Prime Minister of our country.
Tamil Nadu's Vellore constituency polling was cancelled by the Election Commission. Along with 542 parliamentary seat election, assembly elections were also held in states of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
Tomorrow the results for these states will also be declared. The counting will begin on at 8 am.
This year the voter turnout in 2019 Lok Sabha elections has been the highest ever with approximately around 67.11 per cent. The previous highest was recorded in 2014 Lok Sabha elections with 65.95 per cent. Madhya Pradesh saw the highest increase in voter turnout between 2014 and 2019 from 61.61 per cent to 71.2 %, an increment of 9.59 per cent. Himachal Pradesh stood next with 71.52 per cent from 64.45 per cent. Bihar and UP also showed a rise in voter turnout when compared to the statistics of the year 2014.
On the other hand, Jammu and Kashmir observed a huge dip in terms of turnout with only 29.39 per cent voting. That is 20.33 per cent lesser than 49.72 per cent voting during the Lok Sabha elections of 2014.
