Bhopal: The BJP has called for a meeting of its legislators in Bhopal at 7 pm on Tuesday. The BJP is keeping a close eye on developments in the state Congress. Shivraj Singh Chauhan would be elected as the legislature party leader of the BJP if the situation plays out to its advantage.

The Congress has also called for a meeting of its MLAs trying to keep its flock together. At least 20 ministers loyal to Chief Minister Kamal Nath have already submitted their resignation giving him a free hand to rejig the state cabinet.

Madhya Pradesh Governor Lalji Tandon is reported to have cut short his holiday to return to the state capital. The governor's sudden decision to return to Bhopal has sent tongues wagging about the political developments unfolding in the state.

Meanwhile, senior Congress leader from Madhya Pradesh Jyotiraditya Scindia has gone incommunicado along with 16 other MLAs who are said to be loyal to him. A worrying sign for the Congress party is that Scindia has not responded to attempts to reach him made even by the topmost leadership of the party.

Congress leaders in Bengaluru are said to be keeping a close eye on the two resorts where the party MLAs from Madhya Pradesh have been in staying. The AICC high command has reportedly asked leaders like Siddaramaiah and Dinesh Gundu Rao in Bengaluru to await instructions from Delhi on further course of action, if required.

Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh remarked that the people of the state had given the Congress a clear mandate and if anybody violates the spirit of the mandate they would be punished by the people. Singh attributed Jyotiraditya Scindia's silence to swine flu.
