New Delhi: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and nine other MLAs approached the Supreme Court on Monday seeking an immediate floor test claiming that the Kamal Nath government had lost its majority. The apex court is likely to hear the matter on Tuesday. The BJP has sought the intervention of the Supreme Court over the matter and the political crisis in MP claiming horse-trading by the Congress.

Earlier in the day, when the assembly was convened for the budget session, the Speaker adjourned the House till March 26, immediately after the MP Governor's brief address. The Speaker NP Prajapati cited the countrywide concern over COVID-19 outbreak as the reason for the adjournment of the house.

The Governor Lalji Tandon had earlier written to Chief Minister Kamal Nath to seek a trust vote on the floor of the house after his address to the legislature. Chief Minister Kamal Nath had hinted that the decision to conduct a trust vote rested solely with speaker of the assembly, NP Prajapati. He also accused the BJP of holding 22 Congress MLAs 'captive' and sought their immediate 'release'. Kamal Nath wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah in this regard as well.

Meanwhile, Congress leader and former Union Minister who held the portfolios of Home and Finance in UPA regimes, P. Chidambaram in a tweet, criticised the BJP government for triggering political instability in the country in MP and Gujarat, even as more pressing issues such as crisis in the banking sector and the COVID-19 outbreak needed its attention.
