Joint Commissioner inaugurates games meet at Penamakuru

Vijayawada: Stating that Telugu people have a rich culture and tradition, Joint Commissioner of Police BV Ramana Kumar has said youth and children should take part in the cultural programmes, sports and games organised during festivals like Sankranti.

He was the chief guest at the 32nd games meet organised by Bharath Yuvajana Sangham, a youth welfare organisation in Penamakuru village under the limits of the Vijayawada police Commissionerate on Sunday.

The JC launched the signature campaign in the village to create awareness among the youngsters, villagers against cockfights and gambling activities.  

Speaking on the occasion, Ramana Kumar said that the courts have banned illegal activities like cockfights with knives and gambling. He called upon villagers not to indulge in illegal activities.

Ramana Kumar praised the initiative of the youth welfare organisation for the event called upon youngsters to take up the responsibility of hosting traditional games like kabaddi and rangoli.

The CP in-charge, directed the Thotlavalluru and Vuyyuru police to take action against punters and gamblers, who indulge in cockfights with knives. Local youth turned up in large numbers and participated in games like kabaddi, shuttle, rangoli and chess in Penamakuru.
