Speaker flags off 5K Run on World Cancer Day
Vijayawada: Assembly Speaker Dr Kodela Siva Prasada Rao has urged the people to change their lifestyles and spread awareness on cancer to detect the disease at an early stage. Being a member of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital and Research Institute Trust Board, he highlighted various initiatives undertaken by the BIACH.
He was participating as the chief guest at the World Cancer Day programme organised by the TANA Foundation and the Roots Health Foundation, Vijayawada in association with BIACH. He flagged off 5K Run at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here on Sunday. After the run, he inaugurated two-day cancer screening camp on the stadium premises and urged the people to utilise the facility.
About 450 patients were screened and 63 ultra sound tests, 20 Mammogram, 25 X ray and 55 Pap smear tests were conducted on patients. Two cases were referred to further investigations at BIACH in Hyderabad. Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Health Minister Dr Kamineni Srinivasa Rao, Sports Minister Kollu Ravindra, DGP Malakondaiah, SP Gautam Sawang, MP and actor Murali Mohan, TANA Foundation chairman Niranjan Srungavarapu and doctors team consisting of gynaecologist Sharavana Kumari, Dr Ravi Shankar, Dr Sulochana Rani, Dr Surya Prakash, Dr Bhuvana Kumari along with Haritha, medico social workers led by Dr Sadashiva Reddy were present.
