Kakinada:  Seeking a share on loading the sand on their six-tyre trucks at all the sand ramps in River Godavari, the Kakinada Quarry Lorry Union owners and drivers staged a dharna at Collectorate here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders of the union said that the procedure of machine loading of sand at the ramps prevailed during the past government. However, during the present TDP government, rules were being flouted such as free sand supply and loading with a team of labourers.

They urged the government to allow them use trucks with six tyres in sand ramps for their livelihood. They also alleged that at the sand ramps like Muggulla, Munibadali, Katavaram, Vagalapudi and Gutala, all the trucks were allowed except the trucks with six tyres. They informed that if this continues, they would go for a relay strike against these irrelevant rules.

Union president Nukaraju, secretary Venkanna, treasurer Babji and others participated.
