Awareness campaign on kidney ailments launched

Vijayawada: “Women suffer from a number of kidney diseases at different stages of their life. They are at risk of developing Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) during their childhood, early days after marriage, during pregnancy and after menopause,” explained team of nephrologists at Manipal Hospitals here.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, Dr Sridhar said that world wide data reveals that women are less likely to receive treatment for their kidney diseases and most of the time they are the kidney donors because of various social reasons. Research shows that women are at risk of developing kidney diseases.

Manipal Hospitals Vijayawada Unit Head Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi said to increase awareness on kidney related ailments and the importance of early detection of Kidney related diseases, they had unveiled awareness campaign aimed at educating women in adopting healthy lifestyle for a better quality of life.

He said the hospital’s special kidney screening package includes random blood sugar check, Hemoglobin count, Serum Creatinine , urine routine microscopy, ultrasound  KUB, urine protein creatinine ratio and nephrology consultation, he added. Chief of Clinical Services Dr Manoj Kumar and Consultant Urology and Kidney transplant surgeon Ravishankar Ganji and others were present.
