Government to present Nandi Awards for short films

Kakinada: The state government will present Nandi Awards to short films from April, said Andhra Pradesh State Film, Television and Theatre Development Corporation (APSFTTDC) chairman PVVP Krishna Rao (Ambica Krishna).

He participated and presided over the valedictory ceremony of the ongoing Nandi Theatre Festival which is scheduled to be held until March 28 at the Young Men’s Happy Club.
Speaking on this occasion, Krishna said that they were giving the Nandi Awards for cine and theatre fields. They decided to give awards for the short films from April.

He requested the short filmmakers that they should register their names online for the entries. He informed that the APFTTDC was organising the Nandi Theatre Festival since 1996 in the state to encourage the artistes. The Nandi Natakotsavalu were conducted in Rajahmundry, Kakinada, Tenali, Kurnool and Nandyal. About 3,600 theatre artistes participated from 360 theatre communities across the state.

Krishna assured that they would conduct a workshop for the artistes at Kakinada for development of skills in theatre arts. He announced that Kandukuri Awards would be presented in April as part of Theatre Day celebrations. He informed that they would establish a film institute in the district. The chief guest of the valedictory ceremony and Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa, immediately announced that he would allot the required site for the film institute at Peddapuram.

Kakinada MLA Vanamadi Venkateswara Rao and Mayor Pavani also spoke at the ceremony.Kakinada Rural MLA Anantha Lakshmi, Young Men’s Happy Club president Dantu Bhaskar Rao, APSFTTDC general manager Sesha Sai and others participated.Later, they felicitated the supporters who extended their help in the theatre festival.
