New Delhi: TDP MP M Srinivasa Rao has asked the Centre to create a new railway zone with headquarters at Vishakhapatnam as promised in the AP Reorganization Act, 2014. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha here on Thursday, Srinivasa Rao said the demand was a decade-old one.

The Waltair Division was the highest revenue earner in the East Coast Railway Zone and the total earnings of the same during 2013-14 was Rs 6,280 crore which was about 50 per cent of the total revenue of the railway zone. Vishakhapatnam was also blessed with the natural advantage of having two major ports, abundant land bank and the biggest loco shed.
